A Brief History…

The Dillons have lived at Waterfall Farm since the end of the Anglo Boer war. In the late 1800’s, our historic Waterfall Stone Barn was the station goods shed in the small hamlet of Van Reenen, situated 12km away. Soon after settling here, Great Grandfather Dillon demolished and relocated it, a mammoth task as there were no proper roads in those days and each stone had to be transported by ox wagon to the farm. Here it was reassembled on exactly the same footprint, with each sandstone block in its original place. For the next century it was used as a farm shed for a dairy and for sheep shearing. With a change in emphasis to beef farming, the barn was repurposed as a rustic party venue to celebrate special occasions, big birthdays, shoot parties and particularly the farm centenary festivities. More recently, our oldest son James and his fiancée Kelly, decided to celebrate their wedding here. This was the catalyst needed for an upgrade and renovation with a vision to making it a truly unique location for a larger function or a very special weekend party retreat.
